WCAMS Update     February 18, 2021

Message from the President, Irene Percival

I hope everyone is still well, and finding interesting ways to keep in practice on their instrument or voice.

I'm sure you won't be surprised to hear that the Board has reluctantly decided that camp has to be a virtual affair again this year. Fortunately, last year's camp had very good reviews, so we plan to use the same format as in 2020. We'll offer all the same classes plus a few new ones, including Ukulele, Recorder and Vocal Jazz.

Camp will take place (using Zoom) from July 19th to 23rd. Once again, registration is free for members, so after you've paid your WCAMS membership fee ($25 if over 18 - free for anyone younger), you'll have access to any of the 20+ classes we're organizing. However, your membership fees only cover part of the faculty honoraria, so we're hoping that campers will be as generous with their donations this year as they were in 2020.

Although chamber groups are an integral part of our in-person camps, the Board feels that they are less appropriate for a virtual one. However, if you’d like to include a chamber group as part of your camp experience, we'll help you contact other players and faculty. It would then be up to you to decide on repertoire, time and location, and to negotiate payment with the coach. (FYI, our standard faculty rate is $75 per hour.)

More details of the camp, including a list of faculty and schedule of courses, will be announced in March, and online registration will begin in April. We look forward to seeing you again in July.
